BALI TRAVEL GUIDE - NORTH

If you are looking for affordable or even romantic getaway, your best bet is definitely Bali. The peak season for bali is around July and August so if you don't want your photos to be repeatedly bombarded by photobombers, you may want to reconsider your travelling date.
I had been to Bali several times and it is always magical to me. Frankly speaking, I can never seem to get bored of this place. This island has always sent me in awe, awe by the nature and how spectacular it can be. There is no public transport in Bali so do check out discovercars.com below to compare for the cheapest rates available.

Brief introduction to Bali...

Bali is a part of Indonesia predominantly populated by Balinese and the only place where Muslims is considered minority. Most Balinese are Hindus and not Muslim, and that is why Bali is the only place in Indonesia you get to buy beer (YAY!!). It is difficult to differentiate them apart because they do not have any distinctive features or skin tone. Their first language is still Bahasa Melayu even though you can occasionally catch Balinese communicating in Balinese language.

TIP: Do bring your sunscreen as bali can be hot starting as early at 10am.

NORTH BALI

North Bali is increasingly getting attention in the recent years. Follow us through this page to find out why and where to visit!

1. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple was built in 17th Century as a dedication to their Hindu Gods, namely Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and also the Goddess of the Lake Dewi Danu. Positioned right at shores of the Lake Bertan, Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is often known as floating temple. This is as seen during the wet season from October to April. During the dryer season, one is able to walk down to have a closer look at the temple.

Locals, especially farmers, often come here to pray for water since Lake Bertan is one of the largest lake in Bali and also source of irrigation for plantations and rice fields for the Bedugul region village. There is also a park in this area and sometimes locals may come here to admire the beautiful scenery and picnic. Do buffer some time here for those instagramable photos!

OPENS: 08:00 to 18:00 daily. 24 hours for Balinese Prayers
ENTRANCE FEE: IDR 50,000 for adult, IDR 25,000 for child
TOILET FEE: IDR 2,000 per person (I PAID TWICE)

2. Buddist Monastery Brahma Vihara Arama

Brahma Vihara Arama is the largest Buddhist temple in Bali, equipped with meditation room, library, garden and a mini BoroBudur archaelogical site. Brahma means 'Glory', Vihara means 'Way of Life' and Arama means 'Place'. The location of the monastery provides devotees a tranquil environment for prayers and meditation.

Whether you are a devotee or not, do visit the monastery if you are in the area. Located on the higher ground of Banjar, we can clearly see the North Bali sea, plantations and also rice paddy fields. The garden is also nicely decorated with flowers, pine trees and neatly pruned grass. It was very hot when we were there around 10am. Do consider making a trip in the evening (also because you can see pretty sunset), it makes the visit more enjoyable without the intense heat.

PS: We spent quite a considerable amount of time taking some nice instagram shots here instead which most people took at the famous Lempuyang temple. Oops.

OPENS: 08:00 to 18:00 daily
ENTRANCE FEE: Donation based

3. Hot water spring banjar

Let us be very honest with you here. We were expecting a nature hot spring but it did not turn out to be like that. True enough, the water was warm but it was more like dipping in warm spring water pool. We were honestly disappointed as there is nothing much in the area. Despite this, do make your visit if you would like to experience their hot water spring.

OPENS: 08:30 to 17:30 daily
ENTRANCE FEE: IDR 5000 for adult, IDR 3000 for child

4. Twin Lake View/ Wanagiri Hidden Hill (Twin Lake Wanagiri)

Panoramic Twin Lake View

These two attractions are located adjacent of each other but we did not stop at Wanagiri Hidden Hills because we were so done with paying fees for phototaking. The bali swing can easily cost up to IDR 100,000 for each person and we felt was not worth the fee.

Do stop by the Twin Lake View point to see the two beautiful lakes in Bali. Going up to the viewpoint gives you a vantage view of both lakes. On the left you get to see the Buyan Lake, whereas on the right you will get to see the Tamblingan Lake. These two lakes were once amalgamated until it was separated by a landslide and that is currently covered by rainforest. For the adventure-seeking lovers, there are trekking activities as well as canoeing available. Check out the activity/booking kiosk in the vicinity.

OPENS: 07:00 to 18:00 daily
ENTRANCE FEE: FREEEE!!

5. Banyumala Waterfall

Banyumala waterfall is located high amongst the mountainous area and hence be prepared for a short trek to the waterfall. Frankly speaking, this is by far my favourite waterfall in bali and i am a little hesitant to post about it. It is not as touristy as other waterfalls but notable that it is also slowly gaining its fame. You can choose to change into your swimwear and get soaked in the waist deep water. Do remember to take your instagramable shot here!

OPENS: 08:00 to 16:00 daily
ENTRANCE FEE: IDR 30,000 per person
PARKING: IDR 2,000

ACCOMODATION RECOMMENDATION

My usual style will be staying somewhere central and drive towards the north. However if you don't mind staying away from the hustle and bustle, these are the places we will really recommend.

Lesong Hotel and Restaurant
Located in the rurals, on top of the rice terraces, rooms are equipped with huge windows overlooking the beautiful rice fields. Restaurant food are nice, staff are warm and friendly. You can choose visit the nearby waterfall or trek among the rice terraces. At night you can even help out/learn in the kitchen or alternatively, this is also a great location for star gazing at night too.
