BANGKOK FOOD GUIDE

PRATUNUM

Talad Neon Night Market
There are many stalls selling the same variety of seafood here in Talad Neon Night Market so be sure to look around before deciding on the one you would like to patron. It seems that stalls nearer to the entrance sells at a higher price compared to the ones at the back. We tried the restaurant just behind the stall selling mangoes.

Salted Grilled Fish (Pla Pao)
This fish had been nicely grilled and the skin comes off easily. It was moist and juicy, good on its own or even better dipped with the sauces provided. Although it was not by far the best, we still do recommend it.

Tom Yum Seafood Mama with Crab
This yummy pot of tomyum mama (250baht) originally does not come with the crab. It could be owing to the lacking number of patrons on a random weekday, the boss had decided to give us a free special top-up. It could be a little too heavy for one if you are not a big eater. It was however, perfect for us since we had topped it up with our favourite grilled fish.
*Psst we also recommend you have this dish with their infamous Chang beer (approx 70baht) widely loved by the locals*

BBQ sticks
Cheaply priced at 10 baht, we recommend that you try all the different meat. Our favourite by far is chicken. It was the juiciest we have had the entire trip. You can easily spot this stall manned by young a couple.

Opens 17:00 - 00:00 daily.

SIAM
Fuku in Town
One of the more affordable sushi buffet in town that serves quality food. There is a quite a selection of salmon and sashimi priced at 699+ baht. We were lucky enough to be there during their promotion period at 499+ baht per person. They serve free flow of green tea so fret not about the additional drink costs. Do also note that they may charge additional fees for wastage of food so order only the amount you can eat. We especially recommend Fuku's Stairway to Heaven, Salmon Sashimi, Salmon Toro and Salmon Aburi Teri to start with if selection of food gets a little overwhelming and you do not want to risk any food wastage.

Opens 11:00 - 21:00 daily.

Somboon Seafood (Siam Square One)
Hearsay this seafood restaurant is popular amongst tourists for their very affordable priced crabs. We suggest to come early or visit other less touristy outlets. The crabs were all sold out during our visit at 3pm in the afternoon, after queueing of approximately 30 minutes. Nonetheless it was still worth our visit.

We tried their crabmeat with crab roe since they ran out of crabs. Crab roe lovers should definitely give it a try for its generous portion. We were however, busy picking out the crabmeat for this dish instead since we are not a fan of crab roe.

Somboon Seafood (Siam Square One)
Opens 11:00 - 21:30 daily
YAOWARAT (Chinatown)
Attempting to be ambitious as we can, we had to decided to go with the flow and try whatever that was along our way. Apparently most food we took time to queue did not turn our as nice as we thought. So we had come to a conclusion these are the food that we would like to recommend (and we did not even need to queue for it).

Birdnest in Coconut (義福巷魚翅燕窩 Yi Fu Xiang Yu Chi Yan Wo)
For the coconut lovers you are in luck! The coconut compliments birdnest well and it turn out to be a very smooth dessert. Priced at 250 Baht and totally worth the visit!

Birdnest with Egg (高品燕)
Yes you heard it. Birdnest with egg that is surprisingly nice... especially if you are fond of eggs. After a hot bowl of birdnest with egg and gingko nut, we agreed that this will be added on to our must-try list as well. It is decently priced at 300 baht and can be easily spotted just next to the T & K seafood restaurant.

Fish Maw
Situated almost at the end of the food street, we were close to missing this tasty bowl of fish maw soup priced at 50 baht. The old lady who served us spoke good mandarin as her parents were Chinese who had migrated to Thailand. We had no issues conversing in mandarin. Fish maw lovers should definitely try this.

For just 50 Baht, you get fish maw, quail egg, pork blood and etc.

Opens Tuesday to Sunday.
Chok Dee Dim Sum
On our upsetting failed attempt to Jeh-O Chula for their addictive tomyum mama, we found this dimsum place just 3 minutes walk away. Specialised for their 'Hadyai' breakfast comprises of their famous asian Bak Kut Teh with rice, dim sum as well as Thai Milk Tea. We had only tried their dim sum since it was a spontaneous visit. Most patrons during our visit were local Thais enjoying the bak kut teh. Do give it a try if you happen to be in the vicinity.

If you are an adventurous foodie you may want to check out their Goong Spinach and Cheese dumpling, Tom Yum Goong Dumpling and Chokdee Lava Custard Bun though they do not very much appeal to our liking. For a safer choice, we recommend Crispy Taro Lava, Patongko Dip with Thai tea/Green Tea/Coffee and Cheong Fan. Dim sum are mostly ranged between 33 baht to 49 baht.

Jeh - O Chula
When someone mention BKK, our immediate thoughts always link to this place. This place has got its way onto our 'Must-Visit' food list and the photo does not do justice to it. The only downside is that infamous dish is only available after 11pm. Needless to say this place is often swarm with both locals and tourists. As both seafood and tomyum lover, their Seafood Tomyum Mama always struck us when asked about what is nice in bangkok. Do opt for their seafood or All-in tomyum mama. Do also try their pork dishes as add-ons.

We were devastated the last trip we went it was close due to CNY celebration. Do check out their FB page for their opening before attempting to make a trip down.

Opens 17:00 - 02:00
Tomyum mama available 23:00 onwards.
