How to Go Kanchanburi from Bangkok

When it comes to Thailand the first place people would thought of is definitely Bangkok; cheap shopping paradise. Thailand however, is not just all about shopping. Located 3 hours away from bangkok, in West Thailand, there sits a more tranquil and worthy visit place called Kanchanaburi.

1. Drive

Rent a car from bangkok and easily drive up to West Kanchanaburi. It takes approximately 3 hours to reach kanchanaburi.

2. Taxi

You can easily get a ride from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi comfortably but it comes with a high price to pay. Hearsay some drivers charge from 1000 Baht.

3. Minibuses

A less costly yet comfortable ride. Minibuses are actually vans installed with seats and you share the ride with at least 6-8 other commuters. Travel agency at Khao San road offer these minibuses from 250 Baht. Do check out the different prices before purchasing. Our trip from Kanchanaburi back to Bangkok cost us much lesser at 150 Baht.

4. Train

This is the cheapest and the safest choice we took. We arrived at the station at 7:00 in the morning and bought our tickets on the spot. There were reviews elsewhere that refers you to websites that allow you to purchase the tickets online. However during the planning of our trip it seems that no matter what dates we chose there is no train tickets option.

There are two trains that runs daily from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi at 07:50 (train number 257) and 13:55 (train number 259). The trains are free-seating and there is no exact marking on the ground where the door entrances will be. Some cabins have cushioned seats whereas some do not. Do not expect to see beautiful sceneries until you ride past Kanchanaburi so go ahead and rest for 1-2 hours if you need. There is also some dirt and dust flying around since the train is not air-conditioned.

From Bangkok to Kanchanaburi
1. Go to bangkok Thonburi Train station (We took a Grab there and it takes about 30mins during the morning hours)
2. Purchase a ticket at the counter at 100 Baht per person.
3. Wait for the train at the berth just beside the ticketing counter. Do keep a lookout for your train number as there will be many different trains going to different destinations at the same berth.
